Final Chapters Posted!

I’m excited to finally post the final chapters.  Unfortunately I feel like I started hitting my stride in it when it finally ended, though I suppose that’s how these things usually go.  Now, I don’t usually like to do this but I have a few disclaimers before you read the last three chapters.

There will be some parts in these final chapters that may contradict the earlier ones.  When I started writing, I had a few ideas of the routes I wanted to take in the plot, and I began with one path in mind–the one I liked the least but found the most practical.  Well, I changed my mind and decided to write the ending I wanted from the beginning.  So naturally, I need to go back and edit a bunch of things but I’m okay with that.  Just know that right now everything may not connect as well as it will later.

For these reasons, I also struck the reveal of the killer Mr. Brewding’s real name “Walter Rachstein” from the last chapter I posted, Chapter 11.  This will be a much different reveal that you’ll read in these last 3 chapters.  You will also see that in these last 3 chapters Brewding will never be referred to as Brewding, and instead just the killer.  When I go back and change some things, I’m taking the name Mr. Brewding out, but leaving in an easter egg for readers who knew the original name.  I love the character, but the more I wrote, the more I realized how little that name really fit in the atmosphere of the story.  I also didn’t really like making the name I originally came up with to represent my poetry also represent a bad guy in my story.  I am, after all, the writer, not the killer. 🙂

I’ll leave all the chapters unchanged up for a week or so before I take them all down and really begin completing this book.  Yes, there is a difference between finishing a book and completing it.

With these last chapters I definitely went more of a sci-fi route, which is what I wanted from the beginning.  I was hesitant to do this because I was worried it could blow up in my face, but I think with some revisions to past chapters it will really work.  The concept perhaps could be a bit cliche but I tried to put my own nuances in it to make it, well, umm, my own.  When I go back and “complete” this book, there’ll be a lot more supernatural in it, which is what I love, so I hope it’ll be great.

The last thing you’ll notice is the title change to “Watcher, Book 1: A thousand, thousand faces” which I find also suits everything much better.

Like I said before, I’m really excited about this and I hope you all like it too; and if you don’t, feel free to leave some constructive criticism.  I’m totally open to it!

Without further ado:

Chapter 11

Hey everyone, sorry it’s been such a long time.  I missed my deadline, but I’m still going to finish this.  I’m almost done writing the final chapter.  I was going to wait to upload anything until I finished everything, but decided I’d let you have a chapter to read in the meantime.  It’s a bit longer than most the other chapters so I hope it makes up for the wait.  Enjoy!

Chapters 7,8,9, and 10

Finally, four more chapters for y’all to read! I’ve been sitting on these ones since about Sunday, trying to figure out what could stay and what needed to go.  For whatever reason, I’m a lot more self-conscious about these four chapters than the previous six.  I’m not really sure why.  Maybe it’s because things are wrapping up–I dunno.  I do know that this still has been an interesting process.  I’m a bit disappointed that I’ve gotten behind on the deadlines, and I wanted to be more consistent–I think it’s just that the more self-conscious I get about what I write, the less motivated I am to write, and the more frustrated I get with myself that I’m not writing–that just turns into a vicious, endless cycle.  So, I’m going to keep writing and try and finish this.  A lot of things are probably going to be a bit goofy, intentionally or not, but I hope in the end I’ll have a product with a lot of potential.  So, without further ado:

Chapter 5 is up!

Ok, so technically I’m a few hours late, but I got it posted before I went to sleep (the end of my day).  That counts, right?  I was driving most of the day, and even got a late start doing that–my day didn’t exactly go according to plan, but I wanted to make sure I got a chapter up before going to bed.  You can read it HERE.  It’s a pseudo-chapter.  It’s a bit short, so I’m going to post Chapter 5.5 tomorrow, once it’s written after work.  If you missed out on the other chapters and would like to read them, you can find them HERE.

Enjoy!

Chapter 4!

Well, with about 30 minutes to spare, I got another chapter up–today was pretty busy, but I’m satisfied with what I have written so far.  Chapter 4 can be read HERE and the other chapters can be read HERE.

I just wanted to clear a few things up as well.  I realize that the character introduced in Chapter 3, the “Buzzkill,” is a pretty radical individual.  It may go without saying (I’m going to say it anyways), but his opinions, as a character, are not my own.  My life indeed has been affected by an alcoholic, but the line he says at the end “Fuckin’ alcoholics” is something I’d never say myself.  I don’t foster any hatred in my soul for people who struggle with drinking, and I don’t think anyone else should either.  The “Buzzkill” is a killer, and he’s insane.  He doesn’t view reality correctly, and he has very little emotion left in him–I don’t mean to offend ANYONE, I’m simply character building.

Now, for the quality of my writing, I KNOW my writing can be better, and that a book containing chapters written on a daily basis (for only a few hours at a time) isn’t something normally flaunted all over the place with pride–none of this is a finished product.  I’m deciding to post my creative process on the internet, yes, and I’m doing it in a way where I can hold myself accountable so that I set personal deadlines by making a promise to whomever reads my blog that the chapters will occur on a daily basis and then following through with that.  When this book is finished on the blog, when I finally decide to publish this, I can promise that it’ll have undergone a neurotic amount of editing–I’m a perfectionist when it comes to my own work and displaying my chapters raw like this, daily, is a very difficult thing.  I feel very naked, but also very excited (hmm…that sounds a little weird to write…oh well).

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy what I’m writing.  As always, please comment!

Best
